Repairs & Bath Care

repairs and bath care

Your LIBRA bath may be easily repaired  by a DIY enthusiast by following some simple instructions.

It must be noted that the Libra Repair kit is to be used for medium surface damage like deep scratches and chips but cannot be used where the surface has major damage  or where there is structural damage or damage to the fibre glass strengthening backing. Should you be in any doubt please discuss with a LIBRA consultant  in one of our offices

The colour is matched as close as is practically possible to the original but due to pigment variations there may be slight variations.

How to Use  a LIBRA/PLEXICOR repair kit

Contents:
1 x Bottle of LIQUID ACRYLIC
1 x Bottle containing small amount of HARDENER

Damaged area/Surface

A Damaged area is normally a chip where an object has been dropped ,or a hairline crack which is not through the acrylic lining of the bath  or a deep gouge where an object has been dragged across the lining. A repair kit is not to be used to repair a hole through the bath. There is no guarantee that the colour match when dry will be exact.

Preparation of Damaged area

The damaged area/hairline crack must be opened to at least 1 mm. Use a sharp blade or dermal tool to achieve this. This is to allow for the liquid acrylic to enter the crack and “key in” and bind properly.
Clean the damaged area thoroughly when preparation complete using acetone .

Filling up the Damaged area

Mix one tablespoon of liquid acrylic with three drops of hardener. Stir and mix well. Ensure the area is slightly overfilled (higher than the actual bath surface). Leave for a minimum of three hours before moving to next step.

Finish off

Use a 600 grit water paper to remove the high spots where the acrylic has set.
Follow with a 1200 grit water paper to smooth off.
Check the damaged area has no ‘pin holes’in it.
Polish up the area with a rubbing compound. If not quite smooth then use a rubbing compound like brasso or burnishing cream but if properly smooth then use car polish (Rally).

LIBRA REPAIR MIXTURE

This is supplied in two small separate bottles one containing the pigmented syrup and the other containoing a catylyst. Prepare an amount of  mix suitable for the size of the surface cavity damage. This mix must be in the ratio of 25:1 (ie 25 part syryp and 1 catylist) and thoroughly mixed

Allow the mixture to stand for a few minutes allowing any trapped air to escape but ensure the mixture is completely used within 20 minutes

HOW TO REPAIR YOUR BATH

Surface Repair medium damage(deep scratches ,surface chips

  • Ensure the affected area is clean and dry
  • Sand down the area with water paper (Depth of abrasion will determine the grade od sandpaper –600 grit for deep scratches)
  • Fill the affected dage with the syryp mixture(see Repair kit mxturew)
  • Ensure the area is slight ly over filled with the mixtur so it is raise d above the surface leve.(this allows for about 20% shrinkage and also allows for the finishing sanding
  • The mixture needs to cure properly before going to the next step .This takes about 4 hours depending on ambient temperature but it is best left overnight fpr maximum cure and strenghth>
  • Lightly sand down the excess mixture to the original surface level (use 1200 grit waterpaper)
  • Polish with Libra acrylic bath polish
Surface repair light damage (light scratches and cigaretee burn marks)
  • Ensure the affected area is clean and dry
  • Sand down the area with water paper (Depth of abrasion will determine the grade of waterpaper)
  • Lightly sand down the excess mixture to the original surface level (use 1200 grit waterpaper)
  • Polish with Libra acrylic bath polish (In the absence of the correct Libra polish some car polishes and also BNrasso can be substituted but must be tested in a small area not easily visable)
